Cut Time Studio

Time tracking for post-production teams

Cut Time logs each editor's hours per project while they cut. You see the whole team on one dashboard, and nobody fills out a timesheet.

For post houses, edit teams, and in-house video departments.

30 days free with unlimited editors · no card · then $8 per editor per month

Why post needs it

Timesheets in post are guesses.

Editors move between several projects a day. By Friday nobody remembers how long Tuesday's revision took, so the timesheet gets filled in from memory and the client gets billed on an estimate.

Cut Time runs on each editor's machine and records which project is open in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, After Effects or Final Cut Pro, and for how long. Hours land on your dashboard per editor, per project and per client. There's nothing for editors to start or stop.

In use at House of Edits

Built inside a working post house.

Cut Time started at House of Edits, and its editors still track every project with it. These are their numbers since March 2026.

The studio dashboard

Your whole team on one screen.

Hours come in on their own. You decide what to do with them.

Live team view

See which project each editor has open right now.

Hours by project

Every project gets its own total, split by editor and by day.

Client rollups

Group projects under a client to see what each account takes.

Active and idle

Time an app sat open with nobody working is counted separately.

Timesheet approvals

Request a timesheet from an editor, then approve it or send it back.

CSV export

Pull any date range as a summary or a full line-by-line export.

Fair to your editors.

Cut Time doesn't record screens, take screenshots, or log keystrokes. It sends project names and minute totals. Each editor gets their own dashboard with their hours, and they can keep personal projects off the studio view.

Common questions

How does Cut Time know which project an editor is working on?

+

The tracker reads the project name from the open editing app. Each project becomes its own line on your dashboard, and you can group projects under clients.

Do my editors have to start a timer?

+

No. Tracking runs while a project is open and the editor is working. Idle time is counted separately from active editing.

Does it work for remote and freelance editors?

+

Yes. Anyone you invite installs the tracker on their own Mac or Windows machine, and their hours show up on your dashboard wherever they work.

Can I export hours for billing?

+

Yes. Export a CSV for any date range, as a summary or line by line. You can also request a timesheet from an editor and approve it or send it back.

What does it cost for a team?

+

30 days free with unlimited editors and no card. After that it's $8 per editor per month, or $80 per editor per year. There's no minimum, and you don't pay for yourself unless you edit too.
