Cut Time Studio

Time tracking for video production companies

Know what every job cost in edit hours. Cut Time tracks your editors automatically and rolls their time up by project and client.

For production companies, agencies, and studios that bid video work by the project.

30 days free with unlimited editors · no card · then $8 per editor per month

Bidding and billing

Price the next job off the last one.

Most production companies quote post by feel. A brand film gets three days of edit in the bid, takes six, and the overage disappears into the margin because nobody tracked it.

With Cut Time, every client project carries its edit hours. When a similar job comes in, you look up what the last one took and bid from that number. When a client asks for a fourth round of changes, you can show them what the first three cost.

In use at House of Edits

Built inside a working post house.

Cut Time started at House of Edits, and its editors still track every project with it. These are their numbers since March 2026.

The studio dashboard

Your whole team on one screen.

Hours come in on their own. You decide what to do with them.

Live team view

See which project each editor has open right now.

Hours by project

Every project gets its own total, split by editor and by day.

Client rollups

Group projects under a client to see what each account takes.

Active and idle

Time an app sat open with nobody working is counted separately.

Timesheet approvals

Request a timesheet from an editor, then approve it or send it back.

CSV export

Pull any date range as a summary or a full line-by-line export.

Fair to your editors.

Cut Time doesn't record screens, take screenshots, or log keystrokes. It sends project names and minute totals. Each editor gets their own dashboard with their hours, and they can keep personal projects off the studio view.

Common questions

Does it track the whole crew or just editors?

+

Cut Time tracks time spent in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Final Cut Pro. It covers the post side of a production company. Shoot days and prep aren't tracked.

Can I see hours per client?

+

Yes. Group projects under a client and the dashboard totals hours per client for any date range.

Can I use it to bill clients for revisions?

+

Yes. Every project shows active hours by day and by editor, so you can see when a revision round happened and how long it took. Export to CSV for your invoice.

We hire freelancers per job. Do I pay for them all year?

+

You pay for editors who track. Remove a freelancer when the job wraps and the seat comes off your bill, prorated.

How long does setup take?

+

Sign up, invite your editors by email, and they install the tracker. Hours appear once an editor opens a project.
